Hey Curl-Friends! 💕 Welcome back to Texture Society, where we honor curls, coils, and all the gorgeous texture magic they hold. When it comes to extensions, the type of weft you choose matters just as much as the texture itself.

Different wefts lay differently, create different levels of volume, and blend differently — and choosing the right one can be the difference between a seamless finish or a bulky, bumpy install.

Once upon a time, weft options were limited. They were thick, hard to pierce, and came attached to straight or yaki textures that didn’t complement curls or coils. Today, we have more flexibility and more curl-friendly options to choose from — and your install quality benefits because of it.

And yes — your hair density matters. Lightweight wefts may be better for fine hair, while heavier seams may add unnecessary tension on delicate roots. Matching your weft to your density and curl type ensures a healthier, more comfortable extension experience.

The Different Types of Wefts

1. Hand-Tied Wefts

Hand-tied wefts are crafted strand by strand, resulting in an ultra-thin, flexible seam that lays beautifully flat against the scalp. Because of their delicate construction, many hand-tied wefts cannot be cut without unraveling.

Best for:

  • fine to medium density hair

  • maximum blend with curls and coils

  • clients who want lightweight, natural-looking installs

Why Curl-Friends love them:
They lay flat, move naturally, and offer a seamless, soft finish perfect for textured hair.

2. Machine-Tied Wefts

Machine-tied wefts are durable, full, and offer maximum longevity. They have a thicker seam that adds volume, but may be less ideal for clients with fine hair or sensitive roots.

Best for:

  • high-density hair

  • bold volume

  • long-lasting sew-ins

Why Curl-Friends love them:
They’re strong, long-lasting, and perfect for looks that require both volume and length.

3. Genius Wefts

Genius wefts are the newest innovation in extension craftsmanship — the perfect blend of hand-tied finesse and machine-tied durability. Ultra-thin, cuttable, flexible, and lightweight, these wefts lay flat without bulk.

Best for:

  • seamless blending with curls and coils

  • sensitive scalps

  • customizable installs

Why Curl-Friends love them:
Genius wefts offer a premium extension experience with:

  • an ultra-flat finish

  • natural movement

  • a lightweight feel

  • enhanced comfort

  • versatile installation

  • reduced shedding thanks to reinforced stitching

They are becoming a stylist favorite for textured installs that demand both beauty and comfort.

Hair Origin & Density Matter Too

Different regions produce different hair textures. Curl pattern, density, coarseness, softness, and cuticle alignment can all vary. Matching the right origin and texture with the right weft type ensures the best possible blend and minimizes tension on the natural hair.
